Very tricky and possibly tactical affair, which could benefit AIR ASSAULT (7) who should lead this for run. He ran a strong race first up in the G3 Carlyon, three wide no cover throughout there in a genuinely run race. He kept coming late and gets Damian Lane here who should take him straight to the front. HOLYMANZ (6) beat Air Assault home narrowly there in another good run to continue his consistent form. He can land leader's back from the inside gate and should go well. BIRDMAN (5) was very good first up in the Elms over 1400m, a trip far short of his best. An extra furlong suits but he may need 2000m+ to show his best. APULIA (2) resumes from a short let up having won the Perth Cup when last seen. He's a class galloper who has won over shorter trips, he'll just need to come from the back off a slow speed in what could be a bit of a sticky map. ENXUTO (8) charged home in the Elms fresh and can improve out to a mile.

Before that favourite; ran on strongly from last on the turn and won by 0.7 len at Ascot G2 E Van Heemst December 20 over 2100m defeating Hoba West with 59kg at $2.50. Talented type who will be charging late.
Back from a spell. Finished off last campaign 16th of 24 at this track in the G1 Melb Cup November 4 over 3200m, soft track; 14 len behind Half Yours carrying 53kg at $41. First up last campaign eighth of 20 at Newcastle All Weather June 28 over 3269m, 5.5 len behind Spirit Mixer with 62.5kg at $17. Will need this one.

The start before that 5th of 7 at Geelong Coastal Classic on January 3 over 1700m, 2.75 len behind Precious Charm with 60.5kg at $2.35. Nice effort last time. Has race fitness and sets up well here.
